CARLOSCarlos has dedicated his professional career to serving his community within the New York and New Jersey school system, and beyond. Putting to use his Bachelor's degree from Hampton University and his Master's degree from Cambridge College, Mr. Walton founded APEX, African People Exalting Inc. and has served as the executive director for over 20 years. This award winning, youth development program has serviced young men through his Manhood Training initiative and focused on target groups of students in order to aid them in their transition from boyhood to manhood. His program also served the community through his 'College Prep Workshop Series', and unforgettable 'College Tours'.

The monthly workshops throughout the school year, and 7-day college tour from Brooklyn, New York to Atlanta, Georgia has been a key factor in transitioning hundreds of young people into college, and literally changing hundreds of lives. This experience offers students the opportunity for ON-THE-SPOT acceptances, as well as a level of exposure, education and support like many young people have never seen or felt before.
Outside of his impactful work in the classroom as a NYS certified and presently a New Jersey Certified Math Teacher, and earning countless awards and acknowledgements, he also served as Dean of Students and Interim-Acting Principal. In these roles he is able to mentor thousands of students and provide a positive father-figure role for many of them that are missing fathers. Through his Manhood Training program he is able to expose hundreds of young men to Broadway shows and fine dining in Manhattan, further broadening their perspectives and goals.
Mr. Walton further went on to create a pipeline from inner city neighborhoods and housing projects to Morehouse College, and several other historically Black colleges and universities. He established 'The DC Initiative' which takes young men from NYC and Newark to Washington DC for the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference. While in DC for 3 days he has also established the DARE TO LEAD Conference which pairs the young men with other young men from DC high schools, and engages the entire group with workshops, collective efforts, a campus tour and a powerful keynote address.
Coupled with his time spent on Brooklyn's Public Access channel, as a talk show host for 'Youth On The Move', his tour in Africa as the 1st Pan-African King and an extensive list of National and International speaking venues, has all equipped Mr. Walton with the skills and tools to conduct presentations and keynotes from a real world and well informed perspective, and enlightens, inspires and motivates audiences to strive for something better.
Carlos Walton is youth advocacy in its truest form. His mission is to remain consistent in his work and continue to grow through his non-profit organization. Growing4ward will work to raise funds and obtain grants in order to assist in developing much needed youth development initiatives, and summer camp experiences to develop our young men. Please listen out, and spread the word, for all upcoming programs and events you'll find posted on this page.
